MACO Awards

There are nine awards associated with the MACOs. These awards are represented by one of two styles of ribbons (TWOK military style or TOS triangle style). See below for a list of these ribbons. The ribbons can be worn on uniforms as approved by the local commander. These nine awards can be associated with the following categories: service, achievement, commendation, injury, mission performance, meritorious conduct and honor as follows:

MACO1 MACO Ribbon

MAJOR HAYES AWARD (MACO)

The Major Hayes Award is a team award for the MACO Teams belonging to MACO International. Each type of unit is authorized a specific award ribbon for their team members who have completed and certified MACO Grade 2.

Award Category: Service

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: Completion of Grade 2 training in the MACO Field and who’s current unit at the time of award is a recognized MACO unit.

MACO7 MACO Tour of Duty

MACO TOUR AWARD

Award Category: Achievement

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: Completion of a minimum of one (1) year as a qualified MACO level 2 or above

MACO4 MACO Outstamding Team Member Award

MACO OUTSTANDING TEAM MEMBER AWARD

Award Category: Commendation

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: This award is awarded to an outstanding MACO Team Operative who has contributed progressively to the team/ship. Awarded only to one MACO Team Operative per MACO unit annually.

MACO3 MACO Special Projects Award

MACO SPECIAL PROJECTS AWARD

Award Category: Meritorious

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: This award is awarded to a MACO Team Operative who has shown exceptional service to the team/ship by completing a special project(s).

 

MACO5 In Harms Way

IN HARM’S WAY

Award Category: Meritorious

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: This award is awarded to any MACO Operative that is injured/hurt in the line of duty while representing the MACOs. The issuance of this award will be determined by the MACO Command Operations and their decision is final.

MISSION LEADER

Award Category: Achievement

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: This is an achievement award. This is awarded to MACO Team Leaders and MACO Senior Leaders that have lead a bona fide mission that has been sanctioned by MACO Command Operations. A Planning/ preparation form for this mission has to be reviewed and approved by MACO Command Operations. In some case the mission may be planned by MACO Command Operations and given to a MACO Team.

MACO COMBINED FORCES AWARD

Award Category: Training

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: This award is awarded to MACO Team Operatives that has completed all three SFA Colleges at the SFA Institute of Special Operations (College of Special Operations Resources, College of Special Operations Training, and College of Special Operations Units) with a grade of Distinction in all courses.

MACO6 Mission Award

MISSION AWARD

Award Category: Meritorious

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: This award is awarded to any MACO that is associated with five missions/tasks. Associated indicates planning stages and/or participation in the actual mission.

Subsequent awards:  Silver Star = 10 missions     Two Silver Stars = 15 Missions     One gold star = 20 or more missions

Note: Missions must be approved from the MACO Commander prior to this award being awarded to the Operative.

MACO2 MACO of the Year Award1

MACO of the YEAR AWARD

Award Category: Honor

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: This award is awarded annually to only ONE MACO Operative from throughout the MACO Command Operations that has shown exemplary service above and  beyond the call of duty to the team/ship/staff throughout the year.

MACO10 MACO Community Service

MACO Community Service Award

Award Category: Service

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: This is awarded to a MACO Operative that has participated in community projects as determined/outlined on the team reporting form. This award cannot be awarded more than once for continuing community projects.

Combined Forces Qualification Badge

Award Category: Skill

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: For completion of MACO Grade 10 Certification. The MACO Operative must be assigned to an active MACO unit for at least 1 year prior to awarding this badge.

SFSO WINGS

Award Category: Skill

Issuing Authority: MACO Commander

Criteria: Completion of the MACO Additional Skill Certification in Aerospace. This certification can not be awarded unless the MACO Operative has completed the Grade 2 MACO Certification.

Also note that this award is only authorized to be worn on the Class C style uniform ie the BDUs, etc.
