Class A Uniform: Starfleet Formal Dress Uniform (NextGen & DS9)

This is considered the highest level uniform for the purpose of formal dinners and shares the highest level with the Dress White uniform for purposes of Uniform of the day planning.

Occasions for wear:
On duty, as prescribed by the local team leaders.
Off duty, the Starfleet Formal Dress Uniform is normally one of the prescribed uniforms for social functions.
On other appropriate occasions, as desired. The Starfleet Formal Dress Uniform constitutes a formal uniform and corresponds to a civilian tuxedo.

Composition:
The Starfleet Formal Dress Uniform is comprised of the royal blue or mustard jacket, the black trousers and accessories and accoutrements as authorized below.

Jacket, Dress:
The Dress Jacket is based on the formal uniform as seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: DS9 and Star Trek Voyager, in royal blue or mustard wool gabardine or polyester / wool blends. The jacket has black shoulders and opens from the wear’s right side. There is ¼” metallic gold trim (Officers) and 1/4” metallic silver trim (Enlisted), around the neckline and along the top outer flap to the opening edge.

Trousers, Dress:
Dress Trousers are black in color, low waist, straight legged and with or without side and hip pockets. Simple black dress slacks without any product labels will do (they should be plain front—unpleated). The trousers are worn unbloused.

Belt/Suspenders:
If a belt/suspenders must be worn it is not to be exposed.

Footwear:
Black dress shoes are worn with the Dress Uniform.

Headgear:
The Beret (See Figure 4-20) and the Garrison Cap (See Figures 4-21 and 4-22) are authorized.

Insignia & accouterments:
Only the following items are authorized for wear with the Dress Uniform.
Insignia of grade – Worn horizontally below the metallic trim starting approximately 1/2” from the flap opening edge. (See Figures 4-24 and 4-25)
MACO Insignia – Is not authorized. (See Figure 4-18)
Combadge – Worn in the usual place on the left chest. (See Figure 4-17)
Awards—worn below and centered of the combadge. (Optional) (See the MACO Awards Manual for more information)

Class A Uniform: Mess Whites (a.k.a. Insurrection Whites)

This is considered the highest level uniform for the purpose of formal dinners and shares the highest level with the Dress White uniform for purposes of Uniform of the day planning.

Occasions for wear:
On duty, as prescribed by the local team leaders.
Off duty, the Mess White is normally one of the prescribed uniforms for social functions.
On other appropriate occasions, as desired. The Mess White Uniform constitutes a formal uniform and corresponds to a civilian tuxedo.

Composition:
The Mess White Uniform is comprised of the White Waistcoat, the Dress Trousers and accessories and accouterments as authorized below.

Waistcoat/Blouse, Mess White:
The Waistcoat and Blouse are based on the formal uniform as seen in Star Trek IX: Insurrection, in white wool gabardine or polyester / wool blends. The Waistcoat has quilted shoulders and has a stiff collar. There is ¼” metallic gold trim, and a 1/8” black/gold piping on front, bottom and shoulder borders of the waistcoat. There is a 1/8” department color piping around the collar. The trim and piping is gold for Officers, silver for Enlisted and Warrant Officers. The Sleeve has a 1” department color stripe with the 1/8” black/gold piping above and below the department stripe. For Flag Officers, an additional 1” department color stripe is added (See Figure 4-16). The Blouse color indicates the rank of the Operative in the following manner.
Officer O1 – O7 – Gray
Officers O8 – O12 – White

Trousers, Dress:
Dress Trousers are high waist, straight legged, without cuffs, and with side hip pockets. There is a wide range of acceptable materials, but every effort should be made to use the same material as the Mess Jacket. A 1-inch wide department color stripe will be worn on each outside seam of the trouser leg, from the bottom of the waistband to the bottom edge of the trouser leg. A 1/4” gold metallic trim will be on each side of the department stripe. An additional 1/8” back/gold trim on the outside edge of the gold metallic trim. The dress black trousers are worn unbloused with dress shoes.

Belt/Suspenders:
If a belt/suspenders must be worn it is not to be exposed.
Headgear:
The Beret (See Figure 4-20) and the Garrison Cap (See Figures 4-21 and 4-22) are authorized.

Footwear:
High gloss black dress shoes are worn with the Mess White Uniform.

Insignia & accouterments:
Only the following items are authorized for wear with the Mess White Uniform.
Insignia of grade – Worn on the right collar. Flag Officers have two additional rank insignia on each sleeve cuff and centered between the two department sleeve bands. (See Figures 4-24 and 4-25)
MACO Insignia – Worn on the left collar. (See figure 4-18)
Combadge – Worn on the left breast below the shoulder piping. (See Figure 4-17)
Awards– (Optional) Worn below and centered of the Com Badge. (See the MACO Awards Manual for more information)
Dress gloves – White (when authorized by local team leaders).
