Welcome to the official website of the USS FREEDOM NCC-71817. The USS FREEDOM is a correspondence chapter of STARFLEET: The International Star Trek Fan Association. For over 40 years, STARFLEET has provided Star Trek fans a way to meet each other, make friends, have fun, give back to their communities, and show that the dream of Gene Roddenberry can live long and prosper. On the local level, members can gather with other fans for a variety of enjoyable activities. On the international level, STARFLEET offers our members a wealth of resources that you won’t find in any other Star Trek fan clubs. In addition to a great set of membership materials and our regularly-electronic newsletter, STARFLEET offers members the chance to get involved with STARFLEET Academy, the STARFLEET Marine Corps, TF31 MACO, STARFLEET Medical, Pet Fleet, and much, much more. We even have a group of academic monetary scholarships that are awarded to deserving STARFLEET members each year.
STARFLEET Chapters are grouped into Regions, each Region covering a different geographical area. These regions will often hold gatherings where crews of many Chapters get together for conferences, parties, charity events, and a whole range of other activities.
STARFLEET is divided into hundreds of local Chapters, each named as a different starship or space station. Chapters are where the members of STARFLEET get together locally to make friends, meet, and have a fun time. Our many Chapters are spread out across the United States and also in foreign countries all over the world.
STARFLEET Chapters range in size from 10 members to several dozen. Some get together and meet in person while others are correspondence Chapters where members who live far away from each other can still exchange messages via e-mail, telephone, and even good, old-fashioned postal mail.
As a correspondence chapter, we are quite free in our capabilities to support our community, but that comes at a cost of direct contact with each other. However, by serving as a correspondence chapter, we are proud to have members from several states. At present, we have members from the US states of South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida and Rhode Island and we also have members in Canada. We perform hundreds if not thousands of hours of community service collectively each year. We also partake in several options that are not a part of STARFLEET, such as the TF31 MACO’s. You may checkout out our unit the “252nd MACO” page. Feel free to have a look around, and again welcome to the USS FREEDOM!
In the more realistic world, we are a correspondence chapter. This means that we do not officially meet in person. All chapter business is held through correspondence, generally by email. We are presently assigned to the North Carolina sector of STARFLEET Region One. Nearly everyone participates in coursework from STARFLEET Academy and the STARFLEET Marine Corps Academy and most perform some manner of community service, but this it is not requirement to be a member of the USS Freedom.
As a member of STARFLEET: The International Star Trek Fan Association, you may contact the ship’s captain through the contact form in the “Contact Us” page. The captain will provide you with instructions on how to join STARFLEET and the USS FREEDOM. Please continue reading to learn more about the USS FREEDOM.
The USS FREEDOM is registered under the vessel registry NCC-71817 as a Galaxy-Class Exploratory Cruiser. As an exploratory cruiser, our assignment is to continue the mission of exploring strange new worlds and seeking out new life and civilizations. As such, we participate primarily in deep space exploration, first contact missions and charting. It is our mission to go where no starship has been before and bring that information back to Starfleet Command.
We are always looking for new and exciting things to do as a chapter of STARFLEET, so please contact us if you would like more information about how to join the USS FREEDOM or STARFLEET.

Many of our crewmembers are dedicated to making the world a better place. Not all members participate in our community service projects. To understand further, let’s beam down for a moment to Afghanistan, where U.S. Soldiers have received care packages from the USS Freedom crew. Back in North Carolina, we’ve collected Labels for Education and during the holidays we collect donations for the areas Toys for Tots campaign and the Angel Tree Project. We’ve also participated in food can drives and recycling.
That’s just an example of how our community service is actually a global service and because of our efforts to embrace the ideals of “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry, we’re doing our part to meet his vision of a better world.
To see what we do, check out our newsletter, THE LIBERTY on our library page.
Better yet, come aboard our ship by clicking the “Join STARFLEET” link to the right on this page.
Finally, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Live long and prosper!
