USS Freedom NCC-71817

Welcome to the official website of the USS Freedom NCC-71817. The USS Freedom is a chapter of STARFLEET: The International Star Trek Fan Association, based out of Fayetteville, NC. For over 40 years, STARFLEET has provided Star Trek fans a way to meet each other, make friends, have fun, give back to their communities, and show that the dream of Gene Roddenberry can live long and prosper. On the local level, members can gather with other fans for a variety of enjoyable activities. On the international level, STARFLEET offers our members a wealth of resources that you won’t find in any other Star Trek fan clubs. In addition to a great set of membership materials and our regularly-electronic newsletter, STARFLEET offers members the chance to get involved with STARFLEET Academy, the STARFLEET Marine Corps, TF31 MACO, STARFLEET Medical, Pet Fleet, and much, much more. We even have a group of academic monetary scholarships that are awarded to deserving STARFLEET members each year.

STARFLEET Chapters are grouped into Regions, each Region covering a different geographical area. These regions will often hold gatherings where crews of many Chapters get together for conferences, parties, charity events, and a whole range of other activities.

STARFLEET is divided into hundreds of local Chapters, each named as a different starship or space station. Chapters are where the members of STARFLEET get together locally to make friends, meet, and have a fun time. Our many Chapters are spread out across the United States and also in foreign countries all over the world.

STARFLEET Chapters range in size from 10 members to several dozen. Some get together and meet in person while others have members who live far away from each other and exchange messages via e-mail, telephone, and even good, old-fashioned postal mail.

Due to the geographic diversity of our membership, the USS Freedom does not officially hold business meetings in person, though we do have occasional face-to-face activities when able. All chapter business is performed through correspondence, generally by email. We are presently assigned to the North Carolina sector of STARFLEET Region One. Nearly everyone participates in coursework from STARFLEET Academy and the STARFLEET Marine Corps Academy and most perform some manner of community service, but this it is not requirement to be a member of the USS Freedom.

The members of the USS Freedom give back to their communities wherever they are located. At present, we have members from the US states of North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Mississippi, and Indiana, as well as British Columbia in Canada. We perform hundreds if not thousands of hours of community service collectively each year. We also partake in several options that are not a part of STARFLEET, such as the TF31 MACO’s. You may checkout out our TF31 MACO unit on the “MCO-E-01-31” page.

The USS Freedom is registered under the vessel registry NCC-71817 as a Galaxy-Class Exploratory Cruiser. As an exploratory cruiser, our assignment is to continue the mission of exploring strange new worlds and seeking out new life and civilizations. As such, we participate primarily in deep space exploration, first contact missions and charting. It is our mission to go where no starship has been before and bring that information back to Starfleet Command.

Many of our crewmembers are dedicated to making the world a better place. To understand further, let’s beam down for a moment to Afghanistan, where U.S. Soldiers have received care packages from the USS Freedom crew. Back in North Carolina, we’ve collected Labels for Education and during the holidays we collect donations for the areas Toys for Tots campaign and the Angel Tree Project. We’ve also participated in food can drives and recycling.

That’s just an example of how our community service is actually a global service and because of our efforts to embrace the ideals of “Star Trek” creator Gene Roddenberry, we’re doing our part to meet his vision of a better world.
